Bias Ply Install

I am replacing the bias ply tires on my 1952 Hornet. I already acquired the Goodyear Super cushion Wide White Walls. The shop I took it to deals with classic cars and they are having trouble getting the bead to set. I am reluctant to go to a tire shop because I am not confident they can balance or not scuff the white walls. I am in northern Virginia. Any recommendations of a shop to go to foR this?

I had a similar experience with the Super Cushions on my 53 Hornet. The shop I went to had to use safety tubes to get them on.

I am in southern VA but I went to my local tire shop and they did a good job. Hopefully the blue protectant is still on the white and if they are careful should not be a problem.

  • Thank you for the quick response. I believe the blue protectant is still on the walls as I took them to the shop as they came from the supplier.

Sure thing and good luck. For your next set take a peek at the auburn deluxe radials from Diamond Back. They have a great bias ply look but drive so much nicer than my Super Cushions ever did. Can't beat the look of the Goodyears. But wow what a difference on the road.

I was a stickler for cross plies until I was given a set of 600R15's for my Jet. Now I'm a convert. Only trade down is a noiser bumping over road imperfecitons or ridges. Otherwise handling and ride are far superior.
