Four Hudsons at Barrett-Jackson 2007

Just picked up BJ's sneak peek mag at the gas station a couple days ago. Here's a list of Hudsons being offered at the Scottsdale BJ auction:
1953 Hudson Hornet Coupe
1951 Hudson Commodore 8 Convertible
1954 Hudson Hornet 4 door Sedan
1937 Terraplane Custom Pickup (looks to be the one sold at BJ in '06 at $175K)
Anyone care to guess the hammer price on these? Then we can compare with the auction results later. We'll see how the Cars movie has effected auction prices. You can see past Hudson results here:

Seems the Customs and Convertible's were the big winners in recent times. Though that Hud P/U sold in '06 for $35K+! (there ya go Rick...those trucks can be worth some cash!)
Putting in perspective though, I'm sure most of these cars/trucks had a lot more cost in building them than they sold for in auction. That's why we do it for the fun!
I'm hoping to go this year and take a look at the '07 entries. Anyone else going to be there? What days? (it runs Jan. 13-21)

51 C-8 convertible $77,500
54 Hornet 4 door $27,500
37 terraplane truck $190K

If you want the low down on the convertible, which had been offered privately for a couple of years, kindly check with the Indiana boys. It is now, I believe, being consigned because of the no sale repeatedly on ebay from the vendor-Autohaus, Los Gatos. I think the buy it price was around $85K. This car was offered to me in the low 40's.0

My guess is that all things being equal as far as condition and desireable colors, in todays market:
Coupes will bring Twice that of a sedan (Hollywoods 1.5 X Sedan)
Convertibles will bring Twice that of the Coupe
Hornets will have a premium over other models
Trucks (restoration not custom) will bring 1.25 X sedan
For B/J 2007
37 Terraplane $140K Down from last year
51 C-8 $75K (Because it's not a Hornet)
53 Hornet Coupe $52.5K
54 Hornet sedan $25K0 -
Cool guys! I liked that '41 Pickup last year, and you're probably right Rick, they probably did put more money into it than they got, but thats how it usually is.
A friend of mine is trying to get me some free tickets, so maybe I won't have to pay to go this year. I haven't been to a BJ since '94 or '95 I think. I don't really go for the show cars, but I like to see some of the lower bidding cars. I've been watching some of last year's shows on Speed channel and just can't get into the prices they are getting, but hey, great for the sellers anyway. I went to the Good Guys run this year here and just walked right by the show cars. But there were some interesting cars there by folks like us.
Keep the guesses coming and we'll see how they match up!

The 53 Club Coupe Goes Off On Thursday . Non Prime Time
51 C-8 Convt Goes Off On Thurdday Later. But More Notable
54 Hornet Goes Off On Friday Prime Time
37 Terr Goes Off On Sat Non Prime Time
I'm Guessing The Sedan Might Do As Well As The Coupe Because It's On A Better Day.... The 51 Should Have Gotten Saturday , It Will Probably Hurt It......0 -

I'm like you Jay, I prefer watching the lower priced cars (drivers) more than the full on show cars. Maybe it's because I can't imagine buying a car that cost more than most houses in Southern California!
I'm going to be spending 3 or 4 days a month in the Phoenix area recruiting drivers for our company for the next couple of months and I thought I was going to be out there for the auction, but it looks like I'll miss it by a few days. Maybe I will plan it better next year.

I might have to lower my guess on that coupe. That's not a very appealing color. The car is probably really nice otherwise. The 54 sedan looks terrific.0

detail to correctness on the 51 convertible is horrible, but this one has been around for some time.
53 coupe colors are decent, not the best hudson has to offer, but maybe the two tone would have been better reversed....
The 54 is probably the nicest of the bunch, I don't really care too much for the p/u, sad, considering the rarity of a 37 truck.0 -

I've been thinking about Hudsondad's formula. I kinda like it, but think we could tweek it a bit....
Sedan's should bring twice that of a Coupe (hey, they have 2 more doors!)
Convertibles should only bring 2/3 of what a Coupe will bring (there's no top!)
Hornets...... I thought all Hudsons were Hornets
Trucks, well they're priceless if your other car is a Ford
I think we should all price our cars accordingly, at least until I have sold my Sedan and purchased a Coupe. Then we should re-visit this formula.

If that formula was right, I would buy Hudsonkid a Hornet Convertible and myself a Wasp/Super Wasp Convertible!! I would take any year 52-54!0

May be you should re-think this thing.... I have a loading dock, there in Fontana, we could drive (or push, depending on the condition of the car) the car up on it, I'll hang some banners up in the background, put up a couple of awnings, plug in the karioke machine (for sound), I can talk real fast and sound exited. I'll bring my Craftsman hammer (to end the sale). Then we can have Steve deliver the sold units with his truck!
To enhance the experience and keep the bidders there, we can bring in some of the local street vendors to sell their products, you know the guys, tamales, oranges, popcicles, etc.
We could put this on a web cam!

This probably will move up the price guides which heavily look at auction results, especially since there are so few Hudsons sold. The next few months in other Hudson auctions and the Hudson market in general maybe interesting.0

51 Commodore sold at $90,200.00. I think the results on the B-J website include the 10-12% commission.0
