OK, where's this one now???

Still - RIGHT, Roy Thatcher was his name.
Park - I have 3 other little pics I took of the '36 conv. which I've not scanned; it did not have dual sidemounts but Gus "duded" his up with all the options he could find & I was told even imported those wire wheels from Aus. as were not avail. here but were there.
I have gobs of old photos in several big albums which I've been dragging around for decades & am now going thru, scanning the better & rarer ones, then tossing them. Have a group of old dealerships we found with their Hudson signs, will start scanning those soon.0 -
Paul, Kenny Holmes car is a 32 greater 8 coupe. Thought it was and just checked HET register to verify.0
-
Kenny had some great cars, anyone know what's going to happen to them now that he has passed?????????????0
-
found this photo John Soneff sent me in '74 of himself with his '32 Hudson sd.
He was driving it for the filming of a TV series called "Manhunt" which in his note said most of it was filmed in Colo.
I don't believe John still had this very nice looking '32 sd. when he passed recently so wonder where it is now????0 -
can't get photo of John to upload for right now, will try later; have tried again today, don't understand why some photos "load" immediately, others won't, period!?!?!?!0 -
Still et al - for you who might be interested in that particular '33 T8 & it's story + old time HETers in Mass. I've scanned this letter.
My 1st wife, Nancy, now deceased, was brought up in Rowley, Mass. which is a small town south of Newburyport, Mass. The local paper began a series on Hudsons & Hudson's relationship with the Biddle & Smart factory which was in Amesbury, Mass. which must have been fairly nearby.
Nancy's mother sent her these articles & she then responded to them. There are several more mentioning local HET collectors & their cars but I'll not scan any more of them unless requested as were in '66 Newburyport News & perhaps of zero interest to anyone in this forum.
I was personally unaware of this correspondence & only knew of it when wife showed me the clippings her mother sent her.0 -
The '51 C8 cp. mentioned in the article was a beautiful original car! I drove it back for old time HETer Harold Jornt who lived in Kenosha, Wisc. at the time. Earlier I'd gotten a beautifully original '49 C6 cp. for him.
When Harold later moved to Calif. he'd sold both of them, wonder where they are now?????0 -
Thanks Pete for Nancy's letter. very interesting to me. I have been in HET since about 1973 and well remember reading about your trips with Nancy. THAT was a magical time, finding old dealerships with NOS parts and such. RD0
-
car - YES, "those were days my friend - - ". We'd take different routes when we would go back east to Nationals. Seemed like every little town in Ks. had a dealership.
The biggest "treasure troves" were the dealerships in Denver & Billings, Mt., both having been zone distributors. The one in Denver was a very active AMC dealership using 6 '46-7 PUs as parts runners, had 2 step-down conv. in the service area (one belonged to the parts man, other to shop foreman) & GOBS of Hudson parts; had a "used car lot" behind the main building on an alley where they had Hudsons for sale inc. a '37 T panel delivery (have/had a pic of it, see if I can find it). I think this is where John Soneff got his hoard.
The one in Billings was so famed in the L.A. area that several groups of guys went up there with trailers from L. A., about 1500 miles (Nancy & I with a Stude. station wagon, LOL) inc. future HET Pres. Laurel Hanson. The owner, who I never met, had built a big new building as he'd gotten a Buick franchise & put all the Hudson parts from 5 dealerships he owned in the attic. It was just unbelievable & they'd sell stuff cheap - I got an NOS "THIS TIME IT'S HUDSON" neon sign, still in the crate, there, kept it 'til a few years ago & would plug it in when HETers would stop by in various garages where I lived in the approx. 45 years I had it.0 -
aha, found photo of old HET crony Gary Klann standing beside the '36 T panel delivery & another of him not defiling the view, LOL
now damn thing won't even upload a b & w pic!0 -
Pete, love items like Nancy's letter - keep on posting. I wonder if anybody's thinking about another transcontinental run in 2016. Be interesting to see it happen. I'd love to co-pilot somebody and their Hudson.
Hudsonly,

Alex - OK, will scan & post them. Articles mention N. E. members & their cars; soon!0

'29 Dover in S. L. C. junkyard mucho anos ago, LOL0
-
I was told somebody in no. Az. had this Dover & was restoring it, but ?????

Wow! Very cool pictures, Pete. Thanks for posting. Did you take those pics of the Dover?0
-
R. L., no, SLC = Salt Lake City0

thought you guys might like to see this, a scanned postcard Jack used to give out & which I kept. On the back: "TERRAPLANE HILL CONQUERERS WELCOMED HOME. Drivers who broke 46 records in a six weeks campaign through Southern & Eastern States. Chet Miller in Terraplane 8 - Al Miller in Terraplane 6. Wm. Taylor, A.A.A. official - standing beside the Terraplane 6."0 -
I believe that is part of the Hudson factory in the background (I cropped and "doctored up" the tint so it would look better).
For you not familiar with the lore & legend of the '33 Ts, esp. the 8s, this might be informative too. In addition to hill climb records in the so. & east did the same at Pikes Peak & set all kinds of acceleration records at Daytona Beach, some of which stood for decades.
So, what did the factory do with these records holding '33 Ts afterwards????
Wonder if Jack still has the original photos?0 -
Not sure that is a Dover it has an Essex grill and to my knowledge the Dover didn't have a vent in front of the windscreen.
Spencer.0 -
Spencer - looked at the photos, blown up in Picasa then carefully looked at ones pictured in Butler's book & what he says. You're right about the grille as he says "the radiator shell was distinctly Dover, - - with horizontal rather than vertical shutters". The hubcap(s) look like '29 E + all of the Dovers in Butler's book have a single right side mount which I don't believe this vehicle has so I would now have to assume this was either made up by someone or it is a '29 E for which someone had a special body built (& like none of the Dovers in his book).
It has always looked like a milk delivery van to me, but - - - - -0 -
WHEN WE GET HOME NEXT WEEK I WILL SEE IF I CAN FIND A PHOTO OF MY DADS'S DOVER0
-
Note in the "Hill Conquerors" photo that the "6" is a 106" wheelbase car and the "8" is a 113" w.b. See the body line at the bottom of the cowl to differentiate. Also both are true roadsters as discerned by the three snaps across the upper outer door for the canvas side curtains (no roll up glass in a roadster). These will be important points when the discovery of two '33 Essex Terraplanes in a shed in Texas happens. "Oh YEAH, these gotta be THEM"!!!0
-
Still - this is a genuine '32 E rd. I sold Dave McWalters who did the resto. I don't recall ever seeing a '33 T rd., either 6 or 8 but an old HET crony of mine, Pat Meehan, who owned several T8s, said a genuine T8 roadster did show up at the National in Sioux City, Iowa, a National I did not attend. He said he'd never seen another before or since - wonder where it is??? I think he said it only was there 1 day so may have been a "local"?0
-
Oh, man! THAT's a sweet ride, right there.0
-
RL - Dave brought it to Gettysburg, here's some more.0
-
R. L. - this was a very straight rust-free so. Calif. car and as I recall pretty complete. To do a '32 E-T "right" can be long & tedious as were only made the last 1/2 of '32 so quite rare irregardless of body style.0

I just found this photo at a website yesterday, posted by a Canadian. I'm sure (2-tone green paint, old Calif. plates, etc.) that this is the '41 Comm. 6 coupe I once owned.
One of my oldest HET cronies, who got me started in pre-war Hudsons, Tim Rice, as I recall found this '41 in Pasadena & sold it to me. Wife & I drove it around for a while, can't remember to whom I sold it, but this would have been at least 30 years ago.
Wonder if it is now in Canada, who owns it, or if this guy just found this old photo???????
I don't recall ever seeing a '41 C6 cp. before or after so super rare.0 -
just heard from Canadian; nope not his says he found the photo online, has no Hudsons but has always like them - I've asked him where he found the photo online, hope he will respond & that he remembers0
-
There is a 33T-6 LWB roadster in NY that a gent named Jeff owns was with my car in Hal D's collection, he did a bit to this car just to get it running and it is in black primer and going down the road. It was not too bad but looked like it had not seen the road in many years. I have some pics of that car on my laptop. Mark0

Mark-
If you can post the pics, I'd be interested in seeing them.0
