yes, will look at photos I took of his at Gettysburg & see0

This is Richard Griffith, one of the main organizers for the San Mateo National, and I looking over a '29 Hudson d.c. phaeton - I don't know when this pic taken or at which National but I had assumed it was the one Ken Holmes owned but upon exploding the pic see it has/had Mass. plates! Is this Ed Moore's? (Richard had the dual cowl at San Mateo, the ex-Harold Jornt car).0

Scanning more old pics again today, eventually will get done.
This is supposedly the only stepdown PU built in the factory, ostensibly by factory workers "after hours". It resided in so. Calif. for a long time then went back to mid-west, now,?????0 -
This was Jack Smith's '29 Hudson coupe, with dual sidemounts & wire wheels. Jack was legendary with the big '29 Hudson F-head engines. He loved the '29 Hudsons, had at least 3 restored ones & would drive down to the National Meets from Canada (you'll notice it has Canadian plates) towing a little house trailer he & his wife would stay in, just park out in the swap area.
Wonder what happened to his "fleet" of '29s as know he died several years ago?????0 -
I don't spend all that much time looking at stepdown convertibles as there are so many of them but I think this was the most accurately restored '54 I've seen.
Took these photos 10+ years ago at an All-Calif. Meet in Paso Robles, Ca. The owner had a "thing" for '54s, having several others but this is the only one I ever saw. I understand later something fell on the conv. in his garage, damaging & scratching some sheetmetal & he got so mad & disheartened he's kinda "disappeared" from the map, never repaired it, etc.
As far as I know he still has this & his others, lives in no. Calif.0 -
all properly restored Italias look the same so I separate them by owners. I refer to this one as the "Herb Malone Italia".
In the mid-60s my wife & I were going to an AACA chapter Xmas party in downtown L.A. & whilst driving down Firestone Blvd. we were stunned to see this Italia sitting in a used car lot. I had no interest in it but knew Herb did so called him next day, his wife answered, I told her it's whereabouts & she promptly bought it for him for a Xmas present!
It's story: as soon as dealership in San Francisco got it took out the Jet engine & put in a '55 Chevy V8. Not sure how it got to L.A. 10 years later but it was in perfect original condition. We found Herb a nice Jet engine for it but he liked the "get up & go" of the Chevy V8 so never switched engines. Unfortunately Herb got cancer some years later but kept it and his others, his wife selling them off after he passed. Oh, I know you'd like to know, she paid the exorbitant price of $4000 for it.
It's still in L.A. I was recently told, still has Chevy engine, still nice original; owner not an HET member.0 -
I refer to this one as "Freddy C's Italia". I can't remember where Fred found this but it was pretty beat up. During the process of restoring it he died as a result of a household accident & his wife then turned it over to a professional to finish it.
This is Press Kale & myself "giving it the eyeball" at a non-Hudson meet someplace in L.A. a long time ago; I understand it is still in L.A. too but like one above, owner doesn't belong to HET.0 -
this photo of, as you can see, very nice original '33 T6 coupe was taken at an auction in L.A. in '95. The star of the auction was a '33 T8 conv., ex-Harrah's Collection, which attracted some of the "locals" (ourselves & Bill A.) + HET members from Ohio & Colo. We weren't even aware this T6 cp. was consigned. This was my wife looking it over. Have never seen or heard of it either before or after the auction (Pa. dealer outbid all the HETers for the T8 conv. but it is now "safe & sound" so to speak in a so. Calif. HET garage.

"Photo taken in '72 of exc. original '49 C6 cp. Arranged for old crony Harold Jornt to buy this great car from original "little old lady" in Santa Monica (not Pasadena) about 8-10 years earlier; you'll see it has his Wisc. plates on it. Before he retired in Kenosha & moved to Calif. he sold it, wonder where it is now????????? "..... Hey Pete, I can tell you some susequent history about that nice '49 C6 Cp. When the car made it's way to Wisconsin, it ended up in the hands of John Kort, an HET member in Adams, Wisconsin. My dad bought the car from him. I flew up to Wisconsin and drove the car back to Texas for my dad. It was a very sweet ride. Dad had it a couple of years and sold it to Dr. Charlie Purma from Kansas. Dr.Charlie still owns the car0

Arkie - wow, TY so much! Sure glad to know it's in good hands!0
-
Pete, those 6-54 engines came out to 421 cubes. Those cars were road locomotives. Carl Weber has one, think it's 1914 model. From what I've seen of the electrical system (24 volts) you almost have to be an electrical engineer to work on the system!!!!

Alex, right! I've got the Delco manual for it somewhere, still, I think & it's over an 1" thick. Here's a photo of another 6-54 here in Calif. Think it belongs to an HETer; this was at annual Hearst Castle Meet about 2 years ago.0
-
here's photo of it's huge six, cast in blocks of 3 cyl. with common crankshaft0
-
I might add that this BIG touring car was DRIVEN to the meet, not trailered, & that the nearest town of any size where owner may live is at least miles 25-30 or more away from San Simeon.0
-
Pete, the first time I came to California on a "Hudson" trip, you had a tutoned blue '51 HH sitting in your garage with a 7X in it. What ever became of that car?0
-
I had the '50 C8 conv. with the low mileage factory 7X engine in it but wanted to make it original & found a '50 C8 engine. The 7X drive train was so great I wanted to keep it together & found out one of my old Hudson buddies out in Colton had this '51 HH with stick & o.d. so bought it & put the 7X & o.d. trans. out of the '50 conv. into it. Nancy reupholstered it, Dan & I repainted it.
I later sold it to pal in Chatsworth (who still has a '29 E rd., '48-9 C8 conv., and a '47 S6 conv., all restored but no longer in HET) who then sold it to Bill A. who sold it back to a guy who lives somewhere in the Valley. A few years ago I was interested in buying it back but Bill wouldn't tell me who he'd sold it to. Shortly before his death the owner took it to Bill to freshen it up, looks great & I'm sure runs great like it always did so it's still "in the family", yea!0 -
Thought you guys might enjoy this pic from an original factory photo I have. If you enlarge it you'll see it was taken in front of part of the factory. The sign above the doorway on the left says "Display Room" & you can see another '40 conv. on a stand off to the right.0
-
if any of you have a '40 conv. & would like to have this photo let me know & I'll send it to you.
Good old John Conde used to come to Nationals & he'd bring file boxes full of original factory lit. he'd sell for modest prices (I understood he got a lot of it por nada from AMC after the merger). I had a '40 Super Six conv. for a while, sold it to a judge out in the Palm Springs area, don't think he's ever finished it, hmmmmmmmmm.
Wonder where this beauty is now??????0 -
Wasn't there a specific Detroit area Hudson dealership that was highly ornate that was considered the factory "Display Room" and it was not actually at the plant? I can't recall the name.
Then on the other hand, there is the Display Room photo, taken in 1931 in Conde's book, that says it was "in the basement of the Hudson administration building" showing arching art-painted walls, planted palms and curiously, second or third story windows (basement??).0 -
I haven't looiked, Pete, but I think I have that Delco manual in the on-line library. I had a bunch of them from 1913 thru 1921. I think I made a boo boo - upon reflection I believe Carl's is a '15. Also as I recall, the way he came to get it was somebody wanted to buy parts for it and Carl wound up buying it.
