Guys - I'm going to start scanning & adding to this thread another rather large group of photos which I hope you will enjoy seeing. It is my intent to throw away the originals HOWEVER if any of you want them send me an SASE & I'll mail them to you, OK?
I'm going to start with several exc. pics I was able to get at a local HET meet in L. A. some years ago of a '30 H cp. The pics speak for themselves inc. what, as I recall, is an exc. original interior. This cp. has dual sidemounts & wire wheels.0 -
the interior0
-
original crankhole cover0
-
like the crankhole cover, another "needle in a haystack" part, original sidemount holddown bar with lock0
-
nice engine compartment, orig. vac. tank0
-
'30 Hudson name plate
This beautiful coupe was driven to the meet. Belonged to & restored by a Mexican gentleman, had his son with him - can't remember nor did I write down when I took these photos, haven't seen it since.0 -
next 3 pics taken in '96 at Laughlin Economy Run - owner of this '30 H cp. has since died, don't know where it is now, he lived in Utah0
-
this cp. with single rt. sidemount - big travel trunk not std. equip. but trunk rack to carry one was0
-
"correct" engine compartment0
-
This '39 Country Club 8 business cp. I bought partially restored & finished it as seen here in '96. Sold to a guy in Texas where Kelly Hinegardner later said he saw it for sale by a dealer - have no idea where it is now.
I'd bought one some years earlier, a dark blue one & all original, from John Soneff. When got a price to have it painted was quoted a figure more than I'd paid John for it which tee me off so I sold it.
Later saw an ad by guy who, most unfortunately, had hot-rodded it & was able to buy a lot of the mech. & chassis & save those parts as he was leaving Calif. I called hot-rod shop in Orange County where he'd had the work done - he'd blown $100K on the '39 cp., tried to get $60K, couldn't, so kept it; have no idea where it is either. I know of only one other '39 CC8 bus. cp.0 -
Owner of this over-restored '30 Hudson phaeton in France sent me this pic of his car.0
-
Paul Anderson's coupe was often at Laughlin. I had the chance to ride in it one day while we were headed to the gas station to certify the participants. Paul lived in Beaver, Utah. The car was sold and it went East. A young couple (mid 30's my guess) had the car at Oklahoma City National. They were very much in love with the car and it is easy to see why.0

next are several pics of the "crème de la crème" of early Hudsons, an excellent example of the '13 model 6-54 - not "lost" I'm glad to say, belongs to old crony in San Diego0
-
very large & expensive Hudson only built these for 3 years.
The engine makes a Hornet engine look like "chump change": 4 1/8" bore & 5 1/4" stroke (don't remember any longer how many "cubes" that is but WAY over 308, LOL)0 -
these big guys can be driven on modern roads, owner has had this '13 timed at 72 mph! Course when time to "whoa", that's another story, LOL, as weighs right around 4000 lbs. & only has rear wheel brakes.
Here's the dash. This was the 1st year for self-starter & this '13 has it's complete, intact, and functional Delco starting system (there's a huge mechanism on the running board & a little button right below the seat as well as the 3 buttons visible in this picture). The instruments inc. the speedometer/odometer visible here are original. He bought the car in Skull Valley, Az. approx. 50 years ago & has several other Hudsons!0 -
Photo taken in '72 of exc. original '49 C6 cp. Arranged for old crony Harold Jornt to buy this great car from original "little old lady" in Santa Monica (not Pasadena) about 8-10 years earlier; you'll see it has his Wisc. plates on it. Before he retired in Kenosha & moved to Calif. he sold it, wonder where it is now?????????0
-
here's another one of Harold's cars, he did bring the Derham limo west with him but later sold it; luckily active HETer Ed Souers has it now - only 3 of these built, this one for Roy Chapin's mother in '48 - Harold sent this photo when he still lived in Wisc. in '70s0

Saw this '42 wagon probably 1st time I went to Hershey. Remember this little couple driving up in this wonderfully original station wagon, I know it was the 1st I ever saw.
Here it is at National in Sacramento.0 -
It won Best of Show that year at the Woody National a little later down in Encinita, Calif.0
-
they only built 67 commercial vehicles in '42, wonder how many were station wagons? Most would have been trucks.
At the time I took these photos it belonged to Jim Fritts who is to the right in the 1st photo. Met him at Encinitas & he & my wife celebrated his Best of Show at a local bar.
Know he no longer owns it, not sure where it is now ~0 -
this is my last post for now - again, if any of you want the original photos e-mail me immediately as will be throwing them away shortly!0
-
Pete-
You are not leaving these pics on this site, are you? On your photo site would be a much better place to preserve them. Anything on this site will not last forever.
Great pics, like always. Thanks for sharing.0 -
RL - I've posted the best ones into my picture website + keep a copy in Picasa where I've been cropping them & enhancing the colors when necessary.
More to come, thanks for the encouragement as slow & time consuming.0 -
one of the most prized & rarest0
-
a '31 Hudson "sport roadster" (boattail), circa 1970, in barn in the Norwalk area of L.A. - still had original paint, top, etc. - wonder where it is now, what ever happened to it? - old coot had a pretty nice original '29 H cp. he did sell we were able to pry out of him ~0
-
'28 Hudson roadster at '96 National in Dearborn0
-
owner belonged to HET then, drove the '28 up to Dearborn from Ohio on the interstates - he didn't come to the '09 National in Flint. The roadster came out of Washington, had seen it there in '70s.0
-
Lowest mileage, best original '29 Hudson I ever saw, a std. sd., with only 17 K original miles0
-
could go into long funny story but anyway, this belonged to Pete Jones of Detroit. For a few years he was HET President at the same time I was Treasurer & all the Club Officers were into & had '29 Hudsons (think Weber was V-P then). Pete's wife's name was Nancy as was my wife's & the 4 of us got along great. Pete got divorced & kept this car, he moved to Ohio & I saw him at the '09 National but don't know the fate of the '29 ~0
-
Pete, that '28 roadster might be Dave Kostansek's. He lives in Ohio and has a '28, which would fit your parameters. He still has the car.0
