As I mentioned at the beginning of this post my purpose was to put all the P/U VIN NUMBERS in numerial order hoping to see if any numbers were together. It was not my intent to look for any faults with information in the Roster. This list has been a time consuming labor of love checking and rechecking putting this list together and easy to type in an error. I hope not many.

We need to remember we are a club not a corporation. The work on the Roster and all the other group list and other club functions are volunteer efforts that require humongous amounts of time & effort. Support them with information and don't get ticked off because something wasn't done to our satisfaction. I am grateful to those who found something not quite correct and gave me the information needed to make the corrections.

Uncle Josh I have alot of admiration for you and all your hard work putting together the HET Commercail Registrar along with all the other specialty registrars. I have about 30 hrs in on what I have done so far. I had it easier because I got my info from the 2013 - 2015 HET CLUB ROSTER as well as some from responses on this forum and my mail. Thank you for you efforts, I have only learned a little what you and others have gone thru to accomplish your lists. The amount of work & time putting together the Club Roster I can't even fathom. I think I would go nuts trying. We are lucky to even have a club roster. Any list is only as good as the complete accurate information provided.

Just got my Nov/Dec WTN yesterday and have only had a chance to read as far as page 2 so far, on Aaron Cooper's article. I'm excited reading about some of the benefts our new online membership database will provide. Current and previous vehicle ownership as well as non HETmember ownership, updates, parts vehicles and keeping track of ownership changes. Remember this will be an on going effort and will take more time than I can immagine to put it all together. Perhaps a few year maybe.

Just a suggestion Aaron. Don't you just love suggestions. Perhaps sometime in the future, a HET engine ID data base on HET engines collecting dust in our garages. (I happen to have 5) This info may be helpful reuniting engine to a lost HET body for assembling another numbers matching vehicle or a source for engineless vehicles.

To all you guys, this is a GREAT BIG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

My list has a large numer of entries without vin numbers. I only anticipated a few that I could call for vin numbers but there are to many for that. Couldn't afford the phone bill. Please send me your vin number and year to add to the list. It would make it alot easier for me to know what year group to add it to. If you do not want your name listed, you could send me the vin # and year without a name and I will list the number without your name if that will be ok. I would like to be able to show a complete HET Pick UP vin number list to accomplish what I originally set out to do.

This is the last part of the Pick Up Vin Numbers in the 2013-2015 HET ROSTER

    1949
no vin # - Klingenberg, Ernie & Marge
    1950

    1952
no vin # - Evan, Steve

    FIRE TRUCKS

    1926
    408045 - Gill, Jr. Samuel B. d& Pamela - Hudson Super Six
    1927
    L822 - Lenz, William E. & Jane - Hudson-American LaFance

Thank you, to everyone that has helped me with this project.

  • Lee, 2nd truck from the top: 172470 Dave Keister,
It is now my Truck 172470 Paul Hamson.

The vin was made up, as It had no tag on the door pillar. One day I will find the # on the frame and report it.

    Paul
  • That reminds me.......does anyone know what rule/policy/whim governed the practice of stamping the s/n on the rear axle housings? Paul may find it there as well if the housing is original.

Paul, I updated list with you as owner and David as previous owner. Nice HET collection you have. Thanks for the update info.
Frank the vin number on my Pick Ups were found on the right rear axle tube next to the U Bolts about 60-70 degrees down from the top looking from the back side. I have not found the numbers I've been told are on the right front frame forward of the cowl. Also, suppose to be a number on top of the right rear frame but I don't plan removing the bed to verify. All mine have the tag on the right front door post & match the vin on rear axle tube, one matches engine.
Thanks for the important messages. That is the only way the Roster and any other lists can be kept up to date.

When you update the list can you list new owner and date along with previous owner to establish a timeline?

48Sed, if I receive that information it is doable. but not my objective. Also, all updates I receive will be forwarded to Uncle Josh. As I understand it, the new HET online membership data base is in the process of doing that and more, by expanding the data base as well as including all past previous owners. Also, Uncle Josh's list will have greater Pick Up data information than mine and easier to locate owners because his is alphebetical by names, my list is numerical vin numbers with owners name added. I figured that with a name all other data is available from either HET Roster, Uncle Josh or online membership data base, saves me alot of time by not duplicating.

I just thought it would be interesting for everyone to see where our vin numbers relate to each other in reference to manufacturing time frame.

A lot of work done here. Thanks Lee et al. A couple of observations.

I think it was at Auburn, when some critical questions as to the value add of registrars came up. For one thing, it was recognized that for someone to maintain a list independently of Charlotte's membership list was impossible, since two lists never match. What came out of that was that for one thing Charlotte would send updated lists to the registrars periodically. That way the registrars would only have to deal with anomalies. With the online roster that has dried up. Probably because that was too much work for Charlotte.

One value we registrars have been able to offer was that our list from Charlotte came as an Excell spread sheet which we then have been able to sort every which way to provide custom lists, as to who had vehicles similar to theirs near them where they might be able to get experienced help, check duplicate or erroneous serial numbers, find vehicles that may be for sale, track some history etc. Another value, may be that as truck registrar, I've been to the innards of trucks and understand some of the uniqueness of them so I'm able to help with info.

What with the new online roster, I'm going to see how much I can do with that rather than keeping a separate list. One neat feature is the keeping of history so ownership tracking is possible. Yes, I wish people would take a minute to furnish their serial numbers.

The online list can be the most up-to-date info available, as anything printed is obsolete. Of course, all of the registrars do not have access to the internet. Nothing is perfect, but we're getting better. Those of us who can access the online roster, may not need a printed copy, which would be a big saving to the club.

    Hello Uncle Josh

Good to hear from you. I like the observations you presented. I wish I knew how to do them.

I apologize for not replying sooner. My old computer crashed after my last post sometime in the middle of the night. Caused a lot of hard drive damage, over 48,000 errors I was told. Just got it back Friday night and getting used to the new format. My good friend Jairo repaired it and was able to save some info. I was afraid the Vin # list was lost but he also saved it. For this I'm especially grateful.

I'm not computer savy and at a loss when something goes haywire. I think it is wonderful how someone knowledgeable with computers can sort like you mention to create a custom list, I assume it can be done in a relatively shorter period of time. Probably all of what you have mentioned is beyond my computer understanding and know how. Maybe my old computer is not up to it either. If you have any instruction how to make it easier I'm all ears. Consider me a computer beginner.

I realize no list will ever be complete. You have done a great job and had the foresight to keep all the past information, trying not to loose track of the trucks when owners are no longer part of HET CLUB. Before you discard your list would you please send me a copy what you have so I can add the vin # to mine. That would save me a great amount of time search through all the previous rosters. Perhaps one day my numerical listing could be added as a sub list to the new online PU roster. I'm looking forward to see how the new online registry will be arranged especially in regard to the PUs.

I realize no list will ever be complete. But it is an interesting adventure. I'm learned more about the PUs than I new before. Now that my computer is working again I will gather up what new information I have and send it to you.

As much as I would like to have all the 1940's Hudson PUs made, I realize I do not need all three 1947 PUs I have, so two of them are now up for sale. (Personal message or 181884529450 for anyone wanting one) I want to see more of them driving on the road than setting in my back yard. Bettie is after me to finish one.

Thanks for being keeper of the PU Roster.

Lee, I use flash drives to back up my computer work - in fact I work off the flash drive so if the computer crashes I'll not lose anything.  It's cheap insurance - and to make sure I don't lose anything I even back up the flash drive.

If anybody wants their vehicle added to the vehicle database, member or not I would be happy to do it.  If you are a member and your vehicle is listed with a "N" number meaning I don have a serial number, I would love to update your record.

If anybody has collected a list of vehicles with serial numbers and owners (members or not) we can always add them to the database.  The 900+ pickups are all the unique pickup vehicle records.  If you purchased your vehicle from someone in the Club you will be added to that vehicle record.  However in the past without serial numbers, new owners would result in a new vehicle record.  So there may be duplicates.  We are always interested in cleaning up our records.

    Aaron
