My guess it you likely don't see many pictures of Frank "the rebel" Mundy's car is because he was flying the confederate flag. Just a guess.

Mundy 1954 AAA Champion, but apparently was not very photogenic............I meant his cars were rarely photographed apparently with so few pictures in existence or was a runner-up a lot....

    FYI

By now everyone realizes that Mario Andretti (and his twin Aldo) began racing a Hudson Hornet 'Modified Stock car with the motor from NASCAR Champion Herb Thomas. I thought so... Yes Mario also ran NASCAR

    'Clean Sweep Picture'?

I wish I could see another Picture of the Hornets at a Hudson Dealership with a 'broom' standing vertical indicating the Hornets had made a 'clean sweep' of all their races entered.

I seen the picture yrs ago but not since.....

    Timeless

I found this picture in a NASCAR Paper a couple yrs back.

I think that the picture made a very powerful Statement about the Fabulous Hudson Hornets that often drove to & from the rough early Tracks after competing....

....Never been another 6 cyl car that totally dominated 'all V8 Competition ' in automobile history..... Made History... Proud to Own one or two!
  • Here we go, I just found a few more pics.

Is there something wrong with this Home Depot picture or is it my old eyes. For staters Home Depot wasn't a sponsor in the Hudson days - they didn't open up their doors until 1978.

Then there's the numbers - 92 on the front and 0 on the door.

And the rear quarter ain't Hudson for sure.

Almost looks like a negative over negative photo - note the ghost Smoky Yunik garage overlay on the left front fender.

    And, finally - didn't have spoilers back-in-the-day.

  • Think your right on the overlay Alex, I looked at their curent car and is that not a Toyota rear window ? Some other things don't match the present car on the rear quarter tho

    The Old/New Racer Picture #92 & #20 is over 3 yrs old...

I found ithe picture exactly as shown in a NASCAR Jan 2005 article that mentioned above the picture in part ....

    Timeless .....'Some things never change'.

I thought the picture was really neat when a Nascar Writer thought a Hudson Champion Car should be grafted onto a present day (2005) Race Car to kick off their Season and saved the picture to share....

Todays Hudson NASCAR Feature Photo & Trivia is regarding Tim Flock!

Did you realize that Julis (Tim) Flock's Hudson Hornet Won 19 Nascar Poles in one single Season... A NASCAR Record that (may) still stand today!!!![/B]

In this Picture Tim's Hudson Won the Detroit 250 Mile Race, $5000 and the new Nash Ambassadore Pace Car..

Another Hudson Racing Legacy Fast Fact!

More Flock Wins[/U]...Actually brother Fonty (Pictured) was no slouch either... And his Sister even Raced...

Check out the Flock Finishing Records against other Hudson Drivers & some other famous Racing Names with brand X... (Ie) Petty, Baker, Curtis Turner etc.. Awsome!!!

Ck back Friday for more .........

Incidently, My wife found many of these pictures & Stats browsing through 'magazine Venders' at area Swap Meets while waiting for me to look at acres of Parts. She suprised me with many old SpeedAge Magazines with Hudson articles...

    Hudson Records!

After 32 Races Hudson had more than twice the Points than the nearest Brand X Car.....

Think about that, not only were Hornet FAST, They were also far more Durable than all the other Brands in that era....So dont be afraid to stomp on your Stepdown on todays smooth highways....

Often the Race Car would drive off to the next Track or be Towed behind another Hudson. I (heard from an elder person that actually seen it) that sometimes they would even race the 'Tow Car'

  • If you look at Tim Flocks cars you see Blackburn Auto Service, My Dad got to be good friends with Ben (B.B.) Blackburn, Tims mechanic and engine builder. Ben built the 308 that we pulled out of Dads car before we made it into a drag car. My Dad said nobody could make a Hudson run smoother or better than Ben could!
